Many of us are probably unfamiliar with the tree hornbills. Females are
known to encase themselves in their nesting cavity, leaving an opening just
large enough for the mate to deliver food.
The nesting behavior of the hornbills in no way negates the truth of Greg
Glendell's observation, that birds have not evolved to endure confinement.
Maybe humans are not totally evolved to enjoy confinement either, could
that be why we use it as punishment? Why we sometimes fantasize about
enjoying an unfettered pirate's life?
Ay maties?
