Michael...legs straps for parrots?
Hi Michael,
A harness is so easy to train "IF" you start when they are babies ( and
NOT opinionated yet...LOL!) ...after the "window of oppertunity" has passed
..it takes patience to teach ....starting very slowly ...laying it near
them...laying a leash on them...slowly ...slow....very slow....sigh!
>From what I have been told ...( no expert) the legs of raptors are made to
"hold" prey weighing more than they do ...so the legs are very strong ...and
can easily handle jessies and lots of "pulling" on their legs. Alas ...so I
am told ( and ya'know maybe it just isn't true like you said!)...parrots legs
can be dislocated by a strong pull on their legs, either by a handler or either
by the sheer force of their powerful wings ! They are NOT made for being
pulled or weight.....
I am interested in what your vet has to say about it? I am curious to know if
your vet is board certified in avian veterinary medicine ...what I mean is do
you know if he or she took the board certifying (horrendous!) test to be
able to legally say Board certified in avian medicine ... and not just say
"special interest in avian "? There are many vets who are still wonderful who
are not board certified...but what they get to learn when they are certified
covers is so much more it is mind boggeling!
You know your right ... if it could be done with a leg strap it sure would be
a lot easier wouldn'ty it!
{Michael writes:}
My vet, an avian specialist, sees no problem with it. But I'd love
to hear any feedback about actual experiences.
I very much look forward to any input!! If you respond on this site
it would be great to get a copy at m.milliner@v... as well.
Blessings,
Michael
