Re: [Freeflight] near-overnighter/ Isabel
Hi Isabel,
First: Man, I love your name. Isabel .. I just love it. Anyway .. lol ..
Yes, for the most part I don't venture off if he's outside. Now, I think it
is a sense that is not easily explained when you can read a bird real well.
I do know that up until now, and it may change with his age and maturity,
that he does NOT venture more than maybe 300 to 400 feet from the house.
But, I feel very confident because of daily experiences he does not leave a
site usually unless he's scared etc, outside, again that will change I am
sure. He does stay in the area and looks for me .. but doesn't sometimes
come unless he wants to. YUCK .. lol .. I do stay near the home .. Dean
told me at the beginning to make sure my schedule was freed to be home so I
didn't have some emergency or REASON I had to leave. These are not good
times as you probably know they can be stubborn and if you have a Dr.'s appt
or work or an event you HAVE to be at, this would not be a great time to
have your bird outdoors when they are not experienced. I am single .. with
no kids .. so it is easy for me to have a schedule that I can change at a
second and NOT leave the area. I did one day .. for about 15 or 20 minutes
go run an errand I had to with Marco right outside the yard in a tree. I am
not saying it's a good idea but, he didn't go anywhere and was in the exact
spot that I left him. NO, that doesnt mean I think it is ok and now I can
just go and leave him out, before someone sends a "NONO" reponse. It
happened that day, and I took the chance. I would NOT get in the habit of
that. I want to be around when he is outside. If for no other reason to
enjoy it and to make sure I could follow if "GOD" forbid something did
happen . I will say that I think it's important you feel comfortable with
any thing you do and I know reading posts in this group gives me confidence
and HOPE that the goals are attainable. I learn something every single day
.. from either the "pros" on here or someone that is totally new doing it.
I find it to be a lifelong DREAM come true .. so for me .. I will do what I
have to in order to get Marco outside and enjoy it and have fun .. my goal:
I would love to do shows/parties and get the public or friends/family to
enjoy the sport (I do think it is a sport for the birds at least). I think
each day is just one step closer to a goal. Like today: Marco outside not
only came every time and ONLY to me .. but .. I help him high in the air
said FLY and he flew to his perch and back to me . He's been doing this in
the house for a week and NOW today did perfect outside. I am only realistic
that EVERY day will not be like this. He did today he may not tomorrow ..
but I know he will get better over "time" .. even if NOT consistent every
single day or time ..
I hope I answered your question and wish you all the luck ..
