Re: [Freeflight] Lillybird

You snuck Lillybird's free flying in very neatly, lol! Did you
really think we wouldn't notice?

How long have you had her? What training (if any) does she have?

Also, I'm dying to see a picture of her on someone's hand so I can
get an idea of her size. She is a Greater SC, isn't she? How much
does she weigh?

Hi Janet,
You have a good eye! Lillybird is a Greater Sulphur Crested (C. galerita, galerita). She is about 10 years old and never fledged. She's somewhat petite - maybe 850 grams. She spent all of her life as the pet of an elderly couple who treated her well but kept her wings clipped. She has wonderful maternal instincts (tries to feed any baby cockatoo that whimpers) and I think she might make a breeder someday. But she is so soft and out of shape that laying eggs might be a problem, not to mention how important it is for a cockatoo hen to be able to get away from a testy male. So I sent her out to Colorado for flying lessons. Nobody does it like Dean!
