Hi Bart,
Maybe I wasn't clear--Smidgeon the Pigeon is a White Crowned pigeon, a
native species--not a displaced "city" pigeon. They are becoming
somewhat rare in their territory. I WANT him to fly off and joing his
wild brethren.
I'm doing a soft release where I support him with food and water until
he is independent. Just 100 feet away from my house is a major
nesting/roosting area for them. The local rehabber told me that they
will often come back to her place years after they have been released
if times become tough in the dry season.
I intend to lock him in at night to keep him safe while he roosts at
my house.
